Sid Frankel 

Dr. Sid Frankel is a senior scholar in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba after more than 30 years as a faculty member.  His areas of research focus on the non-profit sector and poverty reduction policy. Recent publications include Forget, E. L., & Frankel, S. (2024). Flirting with a basic income in Canada: Were the lessons worth the risk of popular backlash?. International Social Security Review, 77(1-2), 67-83 and Pearce, S., Sophocleous, C., White, D., Laforest, R., Levasseur, K., & Frankel, S. (2025). Spaces of influence in decentralised governance systems: a comparison of substate civil society networks and politics in the United Kingdom and Canada. Voluntary Sector Review, 1-13. Dr. Frankel was invited to provide testimony to the Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology on the Canada Disability Benefit Act.  He is a member of the national steering committee of Campaign 2000 to End Child Poverty and an executive board member of the Basic Income Canada Network
